New SES response trailer equipped and ready to handle the wet season
The Mount Isa State Emergency Service (SES) is equipped with a new Storm Damage Operations Trailer just in time for the wet season.
We're proud to be able to fund this vital piece of equipment from the Glencore North Queensland Community Assistance Program to help the people who volunteer to help everyone else during storms, flooding, fire and crisis.
The new $20,000 Storm Damage Operations Trailer is purpose-built, and fitted out with weatherproof lockers to keep essential equipment such as height safety equipment, chainsaws, personal protective equipment (PPE), power tools and consumables at members' fingertips when out in the field responding to a weather event.
The SES are highly skilled, well equipped, and trained volunteers who respond to a wide range of emergency situations. In north-west Queensland they're particularly busy during the wet season responding to storm damage.
The purpose-built trailer is fitted out with weatherproof lockers to keep essential equipment at hand. It stores height safety equipment, chainsaws, PPE, power tools and consumables at members’ fingertips when out in the field.
Local Controller for Mount Isa SES, David Muston, says the trailer benefits the SES members and goes towards helping Mount Isa residents through improved service delivery.
"By having all equipment at hand, it ensures the volunteers can work safely and efficiently," says David.
"It also means the jobs are completed quicker and all the equipment is stored back in the trailer avoiding a 30-minute pack down at the depot."
Glencore Queensland Metals Smelting and Refining General Manager Adrian Herbert says the SES had identified a need for a Storm Damage Operations Trailer, and Glencore was pleased to be able to fund this vital piece of equipment.

"As we come into the wet season, the trailer will be useful for improved response times, and improved capabilities of the response team," says Adrian.
"We're committed to supporting community development initiatives like the SES that build the capacity of emergency services, and improve emergency response outcomes in north-west communities."
"We appreciate all the important work SES does to keep our communities safe during storms, flooding, fire and crisis."
The SES is made up of volunteers and welcomes the community to be part of the SES. There are roles for everyone, with all PPE and training provided.
