Glencore is one of Australia’s largest producers of coal for export, with 13 operational mines across New South Wales and Queensland.

We operate a mixture of open cut and underground coal mines and in 2025 managed the production of about 97 million tonnes of saleable thermal and steelmaking coal.

Coal is one of the world’s most reliable, abundant and affordable sources of energy and is also used in the production of steel and cement.

Glencore’s coal business in Australia has a good track record of successful investment, project development, operational management and socio-economic contribution across Australia.

New South Wales

We are a major producer of thermal coal, semi-soft and steelmaking coal from eight mines in the Hunter Valley and the Mid-Western region. Our coal is exported from the Port of Newcastle.

Queensland

We produce thermal coal, semi-soft and coking coal from five mines in the Bowen Basin, which is exported from the Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay, RG Tanna and Wiggins Island coal export terminals.
