More than 50 local and national mining industry exhibitors came together to share information on the latest technology, industry developments and services at the Minex Roadshow in Mount Isa.
On the eve of the exhibition on 9 June, Commerce North West President, Emma Harman, opened Minex 2021 at a function that provided an informal networking opportunity for delegates and mining industry professionals to connect.
The two-day event held at the Buchanan Park Entertainment Centre saw a steady stream of mining and industry delegates, community members and students visit the exhibition.
Glencore’s Mount Isa Mines was proud to support the event as a major sponsor and hosted a display incorporating our Communications and Engagement, Human Resources, Environment and Processing teams.
Our Metallurgists generated a great deal of excitement and interest with their mini copper concentrate flotation cell which demonstrated the process of separating and extracting valuable minerals from waste material.
Not to be outdone, our Environment team actively engaged school students with their macroinvertebrate collection while talking about the environmental monitoring and sampling activities that keep them busy as part of their day-to-day work.
This year’s Minex format included some unique iHub speaker sessions which provided mining and resources, government and business representatives the opportunity to present operational, safety and technology updates, along with training and development information sessions.
Glencore’s Queensland Metals Supply Chain General Manager, Clemens Engelbrecht, says this event provided an important platform for bringing together likeminded people and industry peers from around the country to share ideas, industry developments and innovative products.
“The iHub speaker sessions were a great way to engage directly with industry thought leaders,” says Clemens.
“Hearing from experts in the mining and resources field facilitates the cross-pollination of ideas, sharing of knowledge and ensures continuous improvement across our sector.”
“It has been a challenging year with COVID-19 and people enjoyed the opportunity to safely gather, meet face-to-face and exchange industry insights,” Clemens says.
Mount Isa and Cloncurry secondary school students also had the chance to attend the training and development afternoon sessions featuring speakers from TAFE, Department of Employment, Small Business and Training and industry, including Queensland Metals who provided information on career pathways and development opportunities available within the sector.
Thank you to everyone who generously volunteered their time to be part of our Queensland Metals display at Minex 2021.
