Aditi embraces Glencore’s professional career pathways
Aditi Ailawadhi grew up in Chandigarh, a capital city of two states in India, with her parents, a twin brother, and an elder sister.
After completing school in India in 2018, Aditi’s desire to develop a strong foundation in the dynamic and ever-evolving technology industry inspired her to apply to study a Bachelor of Information Technology at James Cook University’s (JCU) Brisbane campus.
During her final year at university, Glencore Technology expanded their Future Minerals Professionals Program (FMPP) inviting JCU to refer their best students in disciplines such as IT, Marketing, Human Resources and Finance. Previously the FMPP, which facilitates internships, was only targeted at Metallurgy, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering students.
After applying to the program through the college careers portal, Aditi secured her position on the FMPP. She embarked on a four-month internship with Glencore Technology while completing her final year of study. This was her first introduction to the resources industry.
Aditi came to Australia to fulfil her aspiration of pursuing an Information Technology degree and nearing the end of her studies she discovered Glencore’s career pathway programs.
Aditi said the FMPP offered her the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals who provided mentorship, practical knowledge, and insights.
“Collaborating and working with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals enhanced my communication and teamwork skills. It instilled in me a strong work ethic and time management skills as I learned to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously,” Aditi says.
“The development and learning opportunities offered were invaluable. Ultimately, the FMPP not only kick-started my career but also laid the foundation for my continued professional growth.”
When a graduate vacancy with the Queensland Metals Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) department became available in early 2023, Aditi presented as a standout candidate for the position and was offered a place on Glencore’s Graduate Program.
Aditi embraced the opportunity to relocate to Townsville to commence her IS&T Graduate position based at Glencore’s Townsville Copper Refinery.

Aditi admits the relaxed Townsville lifestyle is dramatically different to what she has previously known but she has openly embraced and immersed herself in the vibrant north Queensland way of life.
The graduate role offers unprecedented growth and opportunity by allowing her to rotate through various IS&T departments providing exposure to a variety of role functions.
She currently works with the Application Development team, which involves tasks such as developing new application integrations, coding, fixing application technical issues, testing, and the ongoing maintenance of software applications to meet specific project and business requirements.
Each day presents unique challenges to the different software applications used at Mount Isa Mines, demanding timely resolution to avoid any potential negative consequences for other departments, users, and the overall efficiency of mining operations.
Aditi says she’s found a rewarding career where she can contribute to resolving technical issues, collaborating with a proficient and supportive team that entrusts her to take on full responsibility for the projects on which she is working.
She said the move to Townsville has been a huge change, but it has allowed her to embrace a new environment and community. While the pace of life may be different, she appreciates the close-knit community atmosphere and the slower, more relaxed lifestyle that Townsville offers.
She enjoys exploring the vibrant community and diverse recreational opportunities that Townsville has on its doorstep. Aditi has embraced the scenic beauty of the area and often spends time at the picturesque beaches, The Strand or hiking trails. This provides a balance to her professional life but also allows her to immerse herself in the unique aspects of Townsville's lifestyle.
Aditi is excited for her future, to continuously advance in both her personal and professional development while making significant contributions to the success of Mount Isa Mines and the wider Glencore business.
