Supporting local schools
Our operations are situated in the north-eastern Goldfields region and the majority of children living in the region are schooled locally. We support these schools through various initiatives, including financial assistance for materials, events and camps and further contributions through in-kind support.
In 2019, we entered into longer-term partnerships with local schools to provide financial support to assist with the implementation of the Big Picture Education Learning Design, an internationally recognised design for learning based on research that shows we learn best when personally motivated. The model puts students at the centre of decisions around how they learn, and aims to nurture happy and engaged, independent learners through personalised learning plans.
A key intent of the model is to build networks between schools, business, industry and the community to increase learning and employment opportunities for students. Already active in over 40 schools around Australia, we were happy to help local schools to implement the program. We will provide funding assistance over a period of 4 years to Leonora District High School, Laverton School, Menzies Community School, as well as Mount Margaret Remote Community School where a culturally based learning program is in place.
Through our Minara Community Foundation and our community assistance initiatives we have supported a range of projects focussed on education and schools, playgroups, early learning and care facilities as well as the organisations that support them such as P&C associations and Community Resource Centres. Support ranges from funding contributions through to in-kind support.
The Foundation has supported the school fruit program at Leonora District High School for several years and in 2019 assisted the school to establish a hot lunch program for students.
