Glencore's Oaky Creek North Underground Mine Triumphs at Queensland Mines Rescue Service State Cup
Media statement
Emerald, Australia
Glencore's Oaky Creek North Underground Emergency Response Team has claimed victory at the Queensland Mines Rescue Service (QMRS) State Cup, held at QMRS Boonal Station.
Along with securing first place, Oaky North's Robbie Mcshane, Deputy ERZ Controller, was awarded Best Captain while Sam Lindley, also Deputy ERZ Controller, received the Chief Inspector's Trophy.
"I feel very honoured to receive the Chief Inspector's Trophy. Although it's an individual award, I attribute part of the success to the team, as we commit time during our training days to challenge each other on knowledge of the QMRS protocols and emergency response procedures," Sam said.
"We aim to bring the best out of each other in a team environment and this culture not only fosters success but is one of the foundations of the QM RS and assists us with managing emergency situations effectively."
The Okay North team will now advance to the Australian Competition in October, proudly representing Queensland on the national stage.
Damien Wynn, General Manager at Oaky Creek Complex, said the team's recent accolades highlight the exceptional camaraderie and skill at Oaky North.
"We're incredibly proud of the Oaky North emergency response team and their commitment to ensuring the safety of our underground workers and operation," Damien said.
"While we hope to never have to utilise the team's expertise at site, it's certainly reassuring to know they put themselves through such rigorous training for their workmates and community."
"We look forward to their continued success at the Australian competition next month.”
