6 days agoTo complete an overhaul it takes teamwork 👏 Welcome to Ulan West underground coal mine where the Flexible Conveyer Train (FCT) undergoes extensive maintenance every four years. The overhaul involves disassembly, inspections, repairs and reassembly. Spanning 180 metres, this impressive machine is one of only two FCTs in the Australian mining industry and a key piece of equipment at Ulan West.

9 days agoTake a trip back in time as we venture underground at Mount Isa Mines. In the early 1960s this electric train, affectionately known as ‘The Underlander’ was used to transport ore. The ore car body was hinged on one side, and a wheel on the other side would ride on a separate rail to lift the wagon body up. This would tilt the body and open the side for the ore to spill.

11 days agoMatty never planned on carving out a long-term career in mining but 10 years later, he’s sure glad he did. After finishing high school in 2015 and unclear on a career path, a two-year traineeship as a junior underground miner was a good opportunity to earn some money while he figured out what he wanted to do long-term. Fast-forward a decade and he’s still working in the industry as a Rope Shovel Operator at our Hail Creek open cut coal mine. Linking with Glencore through Workpac, as a new to industry operator after his underground traineeship, Matty has never stopped upskilling. While driving trucks, water carts, graders and dozers, he’s taken on the additional responsibility of being the crew health and safety representative. 18 days agoWayne Richards traded in his footy boots for steel caps. Known by his workmates as ‘Richo’, the former backrower won a premiership with the Newcastle Knights in the infamous 1997 grand final 🏆 🏉 When he retired from footy in 1999, he moved into coal mining. Nowadays, instead of putting shots on the opposition, he’s loading shots in the pit as a shotfirer at Mount Owen/Glendell open-cut mine 👊

20 days agoThis #WorldWildlifeDay we’re taking a look at wildlife that’s been spotted across our rehabilitation and mining operations 👀 With many of our operations located in remote regions of Australia, we get to see wildlife stretching from Gouldian Finches, Tawny Frogmouth, Echidnas, Kangaroos, Owls and goannas. Our mates at McArthur River Mine have even spotted a Crocodile in a section of the McArthur River on the mining lease.

1 months agoThe year is 1989. 📷 Pictured here is the opening of the entry portal at our Oaky Creek No1 Underground coal mine. Oaky Number 1 closed in 2017, following the final extraction of coal from the remaining longwall . The nearby Oaky North Underground, located between the towns of Tieri and Middlemount in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, is still mining coal.

1 months agoDid you know, our Murrin Murrin Operations which produces nickel and cobalt also manages four pastoral leases? 🐄 Co-located with the operations in Western Australia, the properties raise droughtmaster cattle, a hardy Australian breed, along with some Santa Gertrudis. ✅ Our pastoral team recently completed an annual muster which involved health checks, tagging, relocation and preparing livestock for sale. 🚁 To navigate the terrain, motorbikes, light vehicles and helicopters were used, helping to locate and guide cattle to the mustering points. Thanks to the excellent work of the team, the latest muster resulted in healthy livestock sales and good retention of stock for the stations.
